A few words from our dentist, Stephen Manson.

Welcome to The Dental Studios Blog.

I will try to post on this twice a month to keep you all up-to-date with all the news in our clinic. This depends on my motivation and my young kids. I always have good intentions on writing content when the MacBook is unsheathed, but before long I am inevitably watching five little speckled frogs sitting on a speckled log eating some most delicious bugs….

I recently had my second Covid vaccine at the Louisa Jordan at the SEC.

A fantastic set up, and I was vaccinated, coincidentally by another dentist. They’re everywhere!

Comfy?” She asked before jabbing my arm.

Govanhill” I replied.

It is has been a year since we had to close our doors and cancel appointments due to the first Covid 19 lockdown.

Since then we have moved into our brand spanking new state of the art clinic and we are now able to book you in for your routine dental check up. There are many challenges as I am sure you will appreciate so we are asking all our patients for patience.

Appointments are taking much longer than pre- Covid due to donning and doffing PPE, disinfection of our studios and social distancing in the lounge areas and at reception. You therefore may have to wait a few weeks for your routine appointment as dental emergencies will be prioritised. When you do book an appointment please follow the guidelines.

Please wear a mask when you arrive, when you go in to see the dentist we will be wearing appropriate PPE. Many members of our team have also had both Covid vaccinations.

We are also able to offer a great range of dental services in our new clinic. So if you want a long overdue hygiene visit, our Therapist, Rachel (who is fantastic) will clean your teeth like new.

Fancy getting your wonky front teeth straightened? Or finally get those implants you’ve been postponing, talk to a member of our team and they will be happy to discuss your options.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Stay Safe.

Stephen

Welcome Back!

The daffodils have bloomed, the clocks have been put forward and it certainly feels like we have escaped the long, dark and cold days, as a new season beckons.

Did you know that all four seasons are named after coils of metal? Except Autumn and Summer. And Winter.

As the lockdown measures ease and with the promise of alfresco dining near, we will soon be able to remove the face coverings and show off our not so pearly whites. At the dental studios we have teamed up with the innovative White Dental Beauty to offer our patients bespoke tooth whitening like never before.

Do you have a Staycation booked? Or will you be venturing to distant white sandy beaches with your vaccine passport? Why not book a visit with one our dentists before you go and get those gnashers gleaming?

The tooth whitening formula we use can achieve visible results in less than a week with proven and predictable results. Wear times have also been reduced. 30-90 minutes rather than overnight wear can accomplish incredible results.

Get in touch with our team today.

Keep smiling.

Stephen

January 2022  – Sustainable dentistry.

Welcome back to our dental blog.

Our Principle dentist, Asid Khan, has written a few words about sustainable dentistry.

A couple of years working with COVID has left most dentists feeling distraught.

I am particularly exasperated about the additional time it now takes to simple procedures. A straight forward scale and polish appointment now takes twice as long; we need to ensure our dentists, hygienists and nurses have enough time to put on their full PPE and then aerate the treatment studio for 10 minutes before scrubbing everything down.

Since COVID hit us, the amount of clinical waste created daily is enormous and this is just not sustainable for our planet. But due to the nature of the waste ie it may be contaminated with COVID there seems no way around reducing the quantity.

However, where there is a will there is always a way.

The entire team at the dental studios have been racking our brains on how to create a more eco-friendly dental practice and have come up with a 10-step- programme not only for treating patients but for the entire team.

This extends from efficient recycling, switching away from gas, refillable water and milk containers, locally sourced coffee, to sustainable items for use with patients. So if you come in for tooth whitening or implants we will email you your instructions instead of printing them.

Our dentists have made the move to travelling via bicycle and public transport whenever possible. And there are many other wonderful steps everyone is taking. Yes, sustainable items for patients will end up costing us extra and perhaps the effect may be negligible compared to the difference big sludge producing corporations could make.

But it is a step in the right direction for the profession- to move a mountain we must move one stone at a time.

Lets hope the profession as a whole starts moving in this direction.

New teeth, New you!

Losing a tooth is tragic. Whether it is due to an accident or from having too many sweets. It is an awful feeling which can dent your confidence and really affect your quality of life. Patients have said they don’t feel comfortable eating in public, they don’t smile as much and feel its always in their mind. The solution in many case is a dental implant. A dental implant stays fixed in your mouth and doesn’t fall out- not when you’re eating, talking, smiling or sneezing.

Long-term studies now show that a dental implant has over a 95% success rate over 10 years and is the most cost-effective long-term solution to a missing tooth.

Some patients are nervous about the procedure- but we provide dental sedation to anxious patients-  they have the entire procedure feeling calm and relaxed. Believe it or not, afterwards they remember it as the most enjoyable trip to the dentist they have ever had. For some people the cost of a dental implant can be the main factor that stops them from having a dental implant. But comparatively, for  approximately the cost of 2 cups of coffee a week over 5 years people can have their life back.

Our patients no longer need to make do with a bridge that looks unsightly or a crown that keeps falling out or even worse a denture that clacks each time they talk. Every day I am having the implant discussion with patients and it makes sense to everyone.

Why would anyone deprive themselves of living a confident happy life worrying simply about the cost of a couple of cups of coffee?
